HOME/Go Darmah for your Karma
10 September 2014 by Harné Heuvelman
Touring versions of sport motorcycles almost always are regarded as less attractive. But when it comes to ‘everyday life’ usability, one might take a different viewpoint. Allow us to advertise the Ducati 900 SD Darmah for your next daily drive!
Of course a 900 Super Sport is a very nice bike (don’t try to convince us of that) but we don’t agree with people trying to push the Darmah in the ugly duckling corner. You need to see the Darmah for what it is; a great touring bike.
In Hinduism, dharma signifies behaviours that are considered to be in accord with rta, the order that makes life and universe possible, and includes duties, rights, laws, conduct, virtues and ‘right way of living’. Ducati couldn’t have come up with a better name for this bike; the Darmah is the perfect classic to really take out for a few days of driving or even on a holiday. With a great riding position and a comfortable addition in the form of a starter motor, it’s probably the most user-friendly of all bevel drive Ducati’s.
This particular 900 SD Darmah, photographed by professional Ernst Klip, recently was completely restored. The owner of this bike had exact same model back in 1980 and always thought of it as the best bike he ever had. He found himself on an old photograph and asked us to build this bike for him. Now going into retirement he will be going Darmah for the perfect Ducati karma.
